Mooring-Configurations Induced Decay Motions of a Buoy

The hydrodynamic damping of a buoy stationed with three different mooring configurations was estimated using Navier-Stokes (NS) equations solver coupled dynamic model. comprised catenary system, system sub floaters, and floaters clump weights. Systematic simulations were achieved by adopting the overset grid scheme instead conventional morphing scheme, which required regenerating entire mesh when buoy’s initial position changed, thereby avoiding distortions numerical instabilities. Motion decay in heave, pitch, surge conducted without various systems. analyzed results decaying oscillating motions, natural periods, associated amounts damping. systems influenced not only restoring force characteristics, but also total moored buoy, demonstrated importance considering mooring-induced investigating offshore structures.
